Fuel Saving Tips

Air Filter -Dirty or Clogged

Be sure to check your filter to make sure that it is clean of debris and is clean for proper filtering. If not, be sure to replace it as soon as possible to allow for more fuel savings!

Under or Over Inflated Tires

Using a good tire pressure gage and your owner's manual to check the correct PSI rating for your tires. If your tires are at the proper PSI rating this will allow for better fuel consumption.

Misalignment of Wheels

Just because your vehicle is not pulling to one direction does not mean that your vehicle is not out of alignment. Having an alignment done every 24,000 km or 18 months allows for better fuel economy and increases the life of your tires.

Diesel Intake Manifold and EGR Cleaning

Volkswagens are equipped with a CCV (exhaust gas re-circulation) system. Oily fumes from the CCV system can combine with carbon particles from the EGR system to form a black sticky tar in the intake system. This eventually starts restricting the amount of airflow into the engine, resulting in gradual power loss and as the vehicle ages, the intake clogging becomes worse. In rare cases a MIL ("check engine") light may be tripped, with an intake manifold pressure control code set, but normally this doesn't happen and no codes are set. Operating conditions, fuel quality, oil quality, driving habits, and general condition of the engine all have some effect on how long the intake system survives before clogging up.

If your vehicle is suffering from lack of power at higher engine speeds at all times, you need to clean the intake manifold. This procedure is generic to all TDI vehicles.
